My daughter had an (almost) week-long inpatient stay at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.
I feel incredibly grateful for the care she received during her stay at Borthwick ward. Every single member of staff we met there went above and beyond to try and make our stay less stressful and more tolerable. It was clearly a distressing time for our family, but all the staff tried their best to help us and I hope they know how much this was appreciated. The whole ward, in general, is clearly very well run, organised and it is obvious everyone does their best to provide the patients with the highest quality care and attention possible.
All the nurses and nursing assistants/healthcare support workers we met on the ward were exceptionally compassionate and caring, and we were never made to feel like we were bothering them when we asked for help. The Senior Charge Nurse on the ward always checked up on us and made sure we were OK.
We are so incredibly grateful to Dr Joseph (who saw us initially in Castle Mey ward) and Dr McLellan, our neurologist, who consistently went above and beyond to ensure our daughter received the best possible care. I am well aware that we may not have achieved such a good outcome had she been admitted somewhere else/looked after by someone else.
A special mention to Audrey, the play specialist on the ward, for helping us keep the little one entertained, and Kathryn (I hope that is the correct spelling of her name), the paediatric registrar, for answering our questions and checking in on us regularly.
It is difficult to put into words how grateful we are for everything and I really hope the staff at Borthwick ward are acknowledged for how wonderful they are and what an amazing job they do every day.
Thank you.
