"Shingle vaccine advice"

About: Central Vaccination Service - Dundee

(as the patient),

Recently telephoned Dundee re. shingles vaccine.  Spoke to a pleasant member of staff (telephone administrator) and explained my dilemma. Being susceptible, and having had shingles on several occasions, was advised by doctor (when vaccine was first introduced) that I should not have it as could cause full blown symptoms and may attack internal organs. Whilst this was disappointing, it was understandable.

However, I recently received an NHS invite for the shinlges vaccine. I needed advice and was assured a nurse would telephone me back. I waited  but no response, just the usual statement - You are very important to us; continue to hold and we will get back to you shortly.

I phoned them and held on for 25 mins. No response.  Why?  Such a simple task!  Leaves you feeling - yet again - worthless. If I was a Vulnerable Adult, I may have gone to the appointment, had the vaccine, and ended up very ill.  Where is the safety net?

Dear Nell2,

thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback, and apologies for my delay in responding due to annual leave.

During campaign the telephone line receives a high volume of queries, and I can only apologise for the length of time you were left waiting. I have passed on your comments to the Administration Line Manager regarding this and that your details were not passed to clinical staff in a timely manner to investigate.

Unfortunately I cannot give specific advice in relation to whether you are suitable for this vaccine, however, please be assured that all citizens are screened during appointments to ensure the safety and suitability of all vaccines, and to provide the opportunity to ask questions or voice any concerns.

I would be very keen to discuss your particular situation in more detail if you feel that would be helpful? I can be contacted on 01382 660111 Extension 59181 which has an answer machine facility.
