"Excellent care throughout my journey"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiology / Coronary Care Unit NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I recently experienced terrible chest pain and called NHS 24. They decided I need an ambulance. At first they said it would be a long wait, but then let me know an ambulance was on its way and they were at my door within about 15 minutes!

The crew were great - friendly and efficient - they assessed me and decided I needed to be taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. They were great at reassuring me in what was a very stressful and scary situation.

They took me in to an area called the Cath Lab where I was very quickly and thoroughly assessed by a team who were amazing - very fast and efficient! They established I wasn't having a heart attack but that there was an issue needing further testing and I was quickly transferred to ward 106A.

All the staff on the ward were great - took plenty of time to assess me and explained all the tests I had had so far and the results, as well as explaining the further tests they need to do. By afternoon they had diagnosed my issues and started my treatment.

The whole of Dr Hannah's team were great, but especially my named nurse, Iona, who took great care of me throughout. Everyone was friendly, professional and reassuring including the doctors, nurses, domestic staff and the lovely porter who took me off the ward for some tests!

I feel that I experienced excellent care throughout my journey and that I experienced the NHS exactly as it should be! Thank you so much.
