"Phone first service"

About: Southern Health & Social Care Trust / Urgent Care Centre (Phone First)

(as a service user),

In my experience, this service did not work for me. When I have asked doctors for information this has on occasions differed a lot from what the nurses said. I feel my visit was waste of time.

Good morning,

I am sorry to hear of your experience with our Phone First Service. Phone First was introduced in Northern Ireland by the Department of Health in November 2020 with the intention to help patients access the right care and avoid busy Emergency Department (ED) waiting rooms. The benefits being that patients may be treated via a suitable pathway and do not have to wait a significant time in ED to be seen.

Since introducing the Phone First system in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, we have seen an improvement in reducing our waiting times in ED for patients; giving patients an opportunity to be treated and assessed by the right person the first time.

It is difficult to comment on the case you have highlighted without being aware of the information surrounding your case. If you wish to contact us to discuss your individual experience further please do not hesitate to do so.

Kind Regards,

Patricia.
