"Waited over three hours for pain relief"

About: St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

Treatment caused bodily damage, awful, multiple bruises due to lack of competence. Waited over three hours for pain relief. Elderly patients left with no help to eat or drink, elderly patients told off for not asking for toilet - how degrading for them.

Staff need to be aware of what they say on clinical areas in front of patients, eg not enough staffing, and moaning about patients. This is so many examples of failings here. You can only get a drink when the trolleys out, woken abruptly to very bright lights in the morning , not introduced to who's looking after you that day ?

Dear matarwh76,

My name is Ana and I work for the Patient Experience Team at NHS Lothian. Firstly, let me thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us via Care Opinion, that is greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear of your poor experience of care whilst attending St. John’s Hospital. It is really disappointing to learn of the experience and concerns you described, it does fall short of our values and the standard of care we aim to deliver to our patients. Our services strive to treat every patient with compassion, dignity and respect, and I am truly sorry this has not been your experience. Please do accept my apologies for the distress and upset this has caused you.

I have passed your feedback onto the Management Team at St. John’s Hospital who will review this appropriately.

Thank you again for sharing your story with us. We value and welcome all feedback, and feedback such as yours enables our services to reflect and learn from it.

Best wishes,

Ana Mezzomo
