"I feel a bit let down by the transplant team"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Transplants

(as a service user),

On reflection, I feel a bit let down by the transplant team in Edinburgh. When my mum was informed that a liver was not suitable for her, we were just abandoned at 10pm in an empty department. No one came near us.

It was soul destroying to see my mums face as she instantly gave up hope. Perhaps someone could just have checked in on us and gave us some condolences and compassion but maybe it is not appropriate. It’s just left me feeling deflated when we were so well informed at other stages of the assessment and process.

The team do a remarkable job but aftercare could be improved and then communication to external trusts. It is a massive responsibility taking home a terminally ill patient on a bus.

I'm so very sorry to hear that this was your experience. Could I ask that you go through the Patient Experience Team as I would like to investigate this further.
