I am in my second pregnancy, and had a booking appointment with the excellent team at the Ulster Hospital. We were booked by Sarah who managed our twin pregnancy- it was great to meet again.
One huge improvement is having access to records and notes in a meaningful way on MyCare. So often we give samples with no feedback - no news is good news. This disempowers users and does not allow informed access and decision making by patients. A few hours after booking I had results of tests on the app - a total game changer which shows parameters, gives a picture over time and helps educate users during process.
I now have all my appointments in one place - before it wasn’t as clear or they changed and a lot was done over the phone. I don’t have to cart around a huge file with paperwork out of order. I can share the information with my husband so he is informed and engaged in the process. If we are ever fortunate enough to have another pregnancy we have all the history in one place and can have consistent informed care.
We have to have our notes from the last pregnancy recalled from records before information can be accessed. Thankfully that will soon be a thing of the past. This innovation is long overdue and will lead to better outcomes for women in their pregnancies.
Well done to all those adapting to such a large and impactful change in the system.
