"Parking provision"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Outpatients

(as the patient),

The parking provision at the New Victoria Hospital isn't fit for purpose. The lack of spaces versus the number of people attending, it seems like a deliberate act from the planners to tick a green box and encourage people to take public transport. This is fine for leisure activities, but totally inappropriate for a hospital. I'm currently attending twice a week, sometimes coming from and returning to my own work as a nurse in the North of the city. I should be able to attend appointments without the overwhelming stress of worrying if I'll be unable to park and potentially be late.

Dear Mummydee

I am so sorry to read about the ongoing difficulties you experience when attending the New Victoria Hospital. I know it can be extremely frustrating and stressful when you arrive at the hospital and then you are faced with trying to find a space to park. As with all our hospital sites, demand exceeds the number of spaces are available.

If you have difficulties find a parking bay please contact a Car Parking Attendant and they will find a bay or make an individual arrangement for you to get to your appointment.

I will also share your feedback with our Travel Planning team.

Thank you

Nicole

Could you advise where to find a parking attendant? I've attended twice a week for 7 weeks so far, and never once seen one. Not sure where to abandon my car while I attempt to find someone to help. Additionally, where could they arrange for patients to go if there are literally no spaces? Perhaps they should be out directing cars to spaces? I'm sure that would go down well if broached with their management. Could you also advise what's been done to escalate the issue to whoever is responsible for the inadequate parking provision, the appalling design of the underground carpark and the Scottish government - there's land all around the site being used to build more and more flats. It's not a small issue and it's unreasonable to expect people to use public transport to attend healthcare appointments. It's important for the overall efficiency of the hospital that staff and patients can safely attend the premises.

Dear Mummydee

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion. I can confirm the car parking attendant patrols the site, so unfortunately there is not one specific location they will be at any given time. Unfortunately, as with many of our hospital sites, there is no additional land available to extend car parking and there are planning restrictions that also prevent any expansion of parking. Our Estates and Facilities Senior Management Team are aware of the ongoing issues with parking and we do provide various initiatives to encourage and support our staff to travel to work using alternatives to car, including discounts on public transport season tickets.

Kind Regards

Nicole

So basically, I can't do what has been advised to solve my original issue of attending the hospital as a patient. Not unless I happen to spot a car park attendant...which hasn't happened in the 15 sessions of treatment I've had so far.
