"Lack of Communication"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I attended the Maternity ward at the Ulster Hospital last month for a scan, during the scan I received upsetting News which altered my life massively. Following receiving this news I obtained no information surrounding what the next steps in my care would be, in fact I received no information at all. I was left feeling even more hurt, upset and confused. The communication from the staff was completely absent and I felt that I was just pushed out the door.

I did not received any leaflets or advice I feel the staff really need to look at the way they provide information to people following bad News especially in a maternity hospital.

Dear Expecting Mother

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I apologise to you for this shortcoming having happened and for its impact on you during your maternity journey.

I invite you to connect with me at any time on 07485593364 or by email at conor.campbell@setrust.hscni.net to share your name / date of birth / address / Health and care number (only if handy) / contact number in order that I may arrange for a member of maternity services leadership team discuss the plan for your care with you and provide you with relevant supporting information.

I fully empathise with you regarding what has happened and wish to have the right communications and information in place for you as soon as possible. Please get in touch in order that I may act on your behalf.

Best wishes

Conor
