Talk of having this done initially came about because I wanted a hernia removed, I was referred to teh consultant to discuss this. When he suggested I had a colostomy reverse.
Diverticulitis caused two massive abscesses in my abdomen, someone said a colostomy can’t be reversed, then to be told my Mr Gupta that it can was fantastic!
I elected to have a colostomy reverse operation by Mr Gupta.
There were some high risks, but all these were explained and all questions were answered at consultation.
I said I was desperate and had developed a hernia as a result of a stoma.
I was frightened, I either lived or died, there was actually a 10% chance that I wouldn’t survive.
I still elected to have it done despite this, it was my choice.
I was booked into a high dependency bed. I was in for 8 days, the wound healed in 5 days.
The whole operation went smoothly.
He put the colostomy back and now I am a normal person again, I have regained my flat stomach, despite being in my 70’s.
The reason why I took the risky operation was because I’d lost control of a part of my body, and I didn’t like that, what I have now is beyond belief, from being nearly dead to feeling really good.
My advice would be if you can, have it done.
I wasn’t talked down to, he spoke to me on his level, never forced.
