"I could feel an improvement from each session I had"

About: Mental Health Services / Perinatal Mental Health Team

(as a service user),

After my first birth I suffered horrendously with birth trauma. This went without any help or support for close to two years when my midwife referred me to the MNPI services at Wishaw General.

Now my care within the MNPI services more than reinstated my trust in health professionals (which was lacking from my birth). I was referred at 28 weeks pregnant and had an appointment at 32 weeks with Dr Gill. Dr Gill was a ray of light - normalising everything I was feeling and offering me support from the get go. Together we chose the method of EMDR therapy and it worked wonders for me.

This support has continued for nearly 2 years. I have never felt so seen, or heard and actually could feel an improvement from each session I had.

The MNPI services have helped me overcome trauma from early life, tackle demons that have been ingrained for well over 10 years. But most importantly, they helped me gain control and set things in place to ensure that my second birth was within my control and I was ready for it - even going so far as to help me write my birth plan and let me have a tour of the hospital again to ease my anxiety pre-birth.

I cannot speak highly enough for what the team and Dr Gill helped me with and how much of a marked improvement I have felt since finishing my therapy with them. Forever grateful.

Dear Mlee203,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback about our MNPI service here at University Hospital Wishaw. Your kind words are very much appreciated by our team, and it is wonderful to hear about how well you have recovered with the help of Dr Gill.

I will pass on this feedback to Dr Gill. It is so helpful to hear about how the various aspects of your intervention helped particularly the tour of the hospital as this is something we have trialled with patients with birth trauma.

I wish you all the best.

Dr Elaine Carr, Lead for MNPI service, University hospital Wishaw

Dear Mlee203,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your experience of our MNPI service. I am absolutely delighted for you that you had such a positive experience during your second pregnancy. I cant imagine how the trauma from your first birth impacted you. Its fantastic to read how MNPI and Dr Gill have made a positive impact in your recovery.

Our MNPI team came into post a couple of years back and have worked tirelessly to get it right for every patient they treat. I know how much thought, feedback from patients and consideration has taken place from Elaine and her team to implement the tour. Its wonderful to read its impact on your health and birth planning.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide such kind words for the team. These will be shared with all the team and Dr Gill.

Take care

With warmest wishes

Cheryl
