"She has given us peace of mind"

About: Community Nursing Services / Rushcliffe Community Nursing Specialist Nursing Services / Community Matrons, Rushcliffe

(as a relative),

Katherine first came to see my dad in September and quickly spotted he had been put on insulin in hospital which was wrong, he didn't need it. It was the infection that caused high blood sugar, hence why his blood sugar was low most of the time.

Having her involved in dad's care has given me more peace of mind than I've ever had before, even though our GP, nurses and district nurses are also brilliant.

A thank you also to district nurse Carol who had a chat to Katherine about dad and asked if she would get involved with his care. Such a lovely person, and an outstanding caring nurse!

Her knowledge, being able to access records, work with doctors and authority make decisions on his meds has made such a difference to my dad's care and his life!

Katherine came in November, dad hadn't felt well but we couldn't put our finger on why. She very quickly made the decision he needed an ECG and called 999. She thought he had a block. She asked if he was offered a pacemaker would he have it done. He said yes, where there's hope I'll take it. He did have a block, she was right! Was taken to hospital and had a pace maker fitted. He is now home and doing very well. She saved his life.

I can't put into words how thankful I am for having Katherine in our lives!! If we hadn't had her my dad wouldn't be here. Forever in debt.

She sorted and brought his Respect folder within days. Something that the GP and hospital never got around to doing, which gave him peace of mind and as a family had the conversation about his wishes.

I hope she is valued by her bosses as she is her patients! In the long run she must save the NHS money by saving GP home visits, nurses visits, unnecessary hospital admissions, ambulance and paramedic call outs to name just a few.

Its like having the hospital visit your home only much better. Vital service in the rural community.

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful feedback about Katharine, our Community Matron and Carol from our District Nursing team. It is heart warming to hear how valued the community matron and district nursing service is, and to hear that you feel it is of particular importance in rural communities where it can be more difficult to access healthcare services. I am pleased to hear that your dad received the help and support he needed and is now doing well.

I will share your feedback with Katharine and Carol and thank them personally for their care and expertise. The Community Matron team work hard to deliver the best possible care and your feedback will be used to help shape and develop our services in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to give this valuable feedback to us.
