My Dad went into ward 231 to have a feeding tube fitted. He has motor neurone disease (MND). Unfortunately there were complications with aspiration pneumonia and wound infection and blocked bowel. These were the last days of his life.
But the standard of care received by my Dad and in fact the whole family was unbelievably good. There is not just a few good nurses or clinical support workers, everyone involved gave amazing care, showing compassion and seeking to make my Dad the centre of his care.
I am not eloquent and find it hard to articulate my gratitude. I can see that the charge nurse herself is full of compassion and professionalism and she has gathered staff around her who are like-minded.
What an outstanding ward. Other charge nurses and wards would benefit from spending time there to learn from them.
I work as a community mental health nurse in addictions and I am dual trained, so saw behind the front of the ward, but behind the scenes it was all good too!
I will always be grateful for all their acts of kindness making difficult days bearable.
