"Unsupported and feeling alone"

About: Adult Mental Health Community / Bassetlaw Local Mental Health Team (LMHT) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) / Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – Community(County) Children & younger people's services / Bassetlaw Children’s Learning Disability Service

(as a service user),

Im a single parent with no family and very little support, I was being attacked daily, covered in bruises and bled most days from my injuries. My young person has severe learning difficulties, global developmental delay, daily seizures and is non verbal.

The behaviour started at age 14, I put it down to puberty and hormonal changes but after 2yrs and it getting worse and them getting bigger and stronger I needed help. After seeking help/advice from several places and getting nowhere, in desperation I self referred to CAMHS.

I waited 18months before we were assigned somebody. By this time my young person was 4months off being 18....CAMHS only go to 18. However the 'process' was started....this involved me talking alot, them writing alot thus resulting in 'reports' and 'assessments' being done. THAT WAS IT !

Nothing practical was done in my opinion....and nothing has changed ! We are now on another waiting list for adult services.....how long that is nobody can tell me !

Im furious beyond words ! 4 YEARS of crap and hell for absolutely nothing....and no doubt when adult services eventually get involved we'll have to start all over again because nobody talks to each other or reads anything that's already been done !

The ONE time in 18yrs  I've had the courage to reach out and ask for help because Id already tried everything I could think of and what others had suggested...i was literally at breaking point...and what did i get .....NOTHING. I wish i hadnt bothered and just battled through it alone like ive always done.

Im disgusted at this so called 'service'.

Dear Mad07,

I'm really sorry to hear of your experiences. If you're able to email me with some further information I'd be happy to look into this for you and to see if there is any support we can offer you both with the transition and to try and avoid you having to go through everything again if possible?

If you could let me know your young person's name and date of birth and a contact telephone number for yourself I can try to provide a more individualised response? My email address is rebecca.keating@nottshc.nhs.uk.
