"A tale of two very different zones"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Short Stay Medicine

(as a relative),

Coincidentally my sister was in the same hospital in the orange zone, while my partner was in the green zone. The difference between them was scary.

My partner was there for 3 days and the room was never cleaned in any way. I accept it is the festive season, however my sisters room was cleaned at least once daily.

The whole system in the green zone seemed dysfunctional, even the tea lady with a choice of 2 drinks got it wrong when I was there to witness it 😡. Over the 3 days, my partner never saw the same Dr, having to explain her symptoms to several different people, no continuity at all.

I am sure my sister will post a glowing report for her carers and staff in orange but green made me 🤢

Dear The Fisherman,

Thank you for getting in touch to tell us about your observations while your partner and sister were in hospital – I hope they are both home and recovering now. It must have been a worrying time for you.

I’m sorry things appeared dysfunctional in the green zone, as Senior Charge Nurse for ward 103, this isn’t an experience that’s easy for me to hear. I shall share this with the team for reflection and I have also made sure your comments about cleanliness have been passed to the domestic team.

If you would like to discuss your feedback further I’d be happy for you to contact me on 01224 550961 or elaine.brooks@nhs.scot.

Take care,

Elaine
