Mum was cared for in wards 29 and 23 of GRI for 5 weeks. She was looked after with care and compassion and her health improved significantly.
She found it very hard being in hospital due to her dementia and did not understand why she was there, therefore she constantly asked staff questions and was never happy with the answers as she just wanted to go home.
Unfortunately, just as she reached the point of being discharged she suffered a debilitating stroke, from which she would not recover. We had open and honest conversations about possible outcomes for mum and we were supported to make informed decisions about her care and she died comfortably and peacefully.
We wanted to thank all the staff in the 2 wards for taking such good care of her, they got her back to being her stroppy self for a while!
