"Mum’s Hospital Care"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Elderly Medicine (12, 14, 18, 23, 29, 30, 32, 33,35 ,39 & 53)

(as a relative),

Mum was cared for in wards 29 and 23 of GRI for 5 weeks. She was looked after with care and compassion and her health improved significantly.

She found it very hard being in hospital due to her dementia and did not understand why she was there, therefore she constantly asked staff questions and was never happy with the answers as she just wanted to go home.

Unfortunately, just as she reached the point of being discharged she suffered a debilitating stroke, from which she would not recover. We had open and honest conversations about possible outcomes for mum and we were supported to make informed decisions about her care and she died comfortably and peacefully.

We wanted to thank all the staff in the 2 wards for taking such good care of her, they got her back to being her stroppy self for a while!

Dear giraffebp58

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback on Care Opinion.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I can only begin to imagine how you and your family are feeling right now so to hear you felt fully supported by the staff to make open and honest decisions on her health was very comforting.

I was pleased to hear the care and treatment your mum received from our staff was to a high standard and she felt well cared for throughout her stay with us. This must have been a huge relief to you all.

I will be happy to pass on your thanks to the team who I'm sure will be as touched as I was to read your lovely comments.

Kind regards

Kevin
