I attended a follow-up appointment with my surgical consultant. On my previous appointment the consultant showed myself and my wife as well as the nurse who was in the clinic a recent CT scan while under their care as an inpatient. The consultant pointed out that I had several hernias in my mid line abdomen, and said if I lost the weight they desired, they would book me straight away for surgery on my next appointment.
I arrived with trepidation to this follow-up appointment, weight loss achieved. The consultant says to me they are happy I lost my weight, a very quick feel of my abdomen, and words to the effect that I no longer have a problem. And goodbye. No mention of the planned surgery as previous. Was in the consulting room just under 2 minutes. Happy Xmas and a hand shake that's all I got from this appointment.
The following days where the consultant had briefly examined my abdomen, I had soreness and swelling. I rested and had a very soft diet and the swelling has gone down a little since. I feel this consultant has left me in no man's land from having a plan to having nothing. They said to me previously it would be a difficult operation and a long recovery, but now doesn't want or will not commit to helping me, it seems.
My working life is getting shorter each day and I was hoping for this operation to extend my working life going forward. There is no trust in the NHS and consultants from myself, it's like I have been left out to dry. Broken promises and empty words 💔😭
