About: New Craigs Hospital / Mental Health Services

(as the patient),

I want to know how to get 2nd opinion on mental health diagnosis and how to get a new psychiatrist.  

 In 2021 I was diagnosed schizoaffective and put on a compulsory treatment order to be forced with monthly injection which iv been on for 3 years coming up 4 years which i disagree with I'm deeply unahppy about the forced treatment and deeply unahppy about the way im treated under the  mainstream psschiatry   

iv got autism and a learning disability wich i feel are my only diagnisis i feel %100 that i dont have a mental health condition  so want a 2nd opinion and new doctor that dose not force meds or treatment on me as i find it unhelpful my last 2 doctors did not force treatment or meds

Sometimes when people are unwell they are unable to give consent to treatment. In some cases where this happen, people can be given treatment and this is called compulsory treatment. There are strict rules and safeguards when compulsory treatment is given and the law contains safeguards to protect your rights. For example compulsory treatment orders must be approved by the Mental Health Tribunal Scotland.

The law also says that people with learning disabilities and people with a mental illness have a right to independent advocacy. Independent advocacy helps you to make your voice stronger and to have as much control as possible over your life. Our doctors, nurses, social workers, and mental health officers should make sure people know about independent advocacy, and will help you to access this if you would find this support helpful.

Second opinions can help people feel more certain about the right diagnosis and suggested treatment. Your psychiatrist will be very happy to speak to you about why you want a second opinion and if they agree that this will be helpful, they will arrange this for you.
