"I’m happy with the care my daughter is getting"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

We took our daughter into Daisy Hill recently. We were admitted on to the Daisy ward with her. The staff on the ward are brilliant. The doctors have checked in with us this morning and have been very informative of everything. We have noticed a good improvement in her since coming in.

The ward is lovely and clean.

The only recommendation I would have is to offer parents of children some dinner. Especially when one parent is here on their own and can’t leave their child. I was here since 6pm the previous evening with no food and I am very hungry running with nothing really to eat.

Other than this, I’m happy with the care my daughter is getting on the Daisy ward.

Hello runninghy63

Thank you for sharing your kind words via Care Opinion and I am delighted to read that you have had such a positive experience within our Paediatric Unit. The staff will be overwhelmed by your feedback and it is wonderful to hear that you felt so well supported throughout your visit. The domestic team truly take such pride in their work so this acknowledgement will mean so much to them.

I am sorry that you did not receive any meals however, whilst staff are able to provide tea and toast to parents, only breastfeeding parents and families that are in red zones (those unable to leave their side room due to infection status) are provided with meal vouchers. This is our standard practice and fortunately we have a parents room on the Ward with a refrigerator and storage for parents to bring in food and also, avail of the canteen and shop/coffee dock facilities on site. Our staff are more than happy to support parents to leave the ward to get refreshments and will sit in with children if required.

I hope your daughter has made a full recovery and I wish you all the very best for 2024.

Kind regards

Jodie

Hello runninghy63

By way of follow up, I would like to advise you that we have made a change given your feedback as follows:

An 'Additional Information for Parents' laminated sheet has been placed in each room on Daisy Ward advising parents that staff can sit with children if no other options available to allow parents to leave the ward for refreshments.

Our Parent Information Leaflets have been updated and will be ordered in due course to reflect the above information.

I wish you all the very best.

Kind regards

Jodie
