"Lack of communication with staff"

About: Boston Urgent Treatment Centre / Out of hours service Pilgrim Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a serious accident in July 2023 been knocked of my push bike and damaged my left leg, I went to have my leg checked over at the UTC and that was an eye opener, after my X-ray I had to return back to the UTC to wait and see a specialist. Once that was done I was referred to the Fracture Clinic in August 2023 for my first appointment that went according then I had to go back 2 weeks later (August 2023).

Then I was told I would need a MRI scan which was booked for me. Before the MRI scan I called the department and explained that I had numbness on my left foot due to my injury. Eventually I got my MRI scan and then had to wait until there was an appointment for me for a follow up.

On arriving for my follow up appointment November 2023 I arrived at 14:55 and my appointment was for 15:10 so I was in time, I didn't get seen until 16:25, and when called I went to sit in a room to see the specialist. From the minute I walked into the room to seeing the specialist I can't of been in the room for more than 2 minutes, the specialist explained what they had to explain, then I asked why I am getting numbness in my left foot. They sat there in a bewildered fashion to ask me, was this after your accident?

I was gobsmacked, as I called to pass this information on to the specialist before I had my MRI scan and they didn't know what I was going on about. I left the room totally deflated to think I did give all information to help my situation and the Drs or Specialist had all my details. Nothing was obviously passed on, which I find bizarre.

The more information the better, it helps you help the specialist but not this time, I felt the specialist just wanted to quickly say their bit on what information they had. Sorry that's it we can't help you any more I have to live with what injury I have.

I'm still having issues with my injury and feel it's pointless asking for any more advise or help to help me lead a better life. I felt as if I was merely a number, I most definitely found no care or attention to my situation, I may as well of not turned up for this appointment.

This team in the Fracture Clinic really let the Pilgrim down, I mean how can I help myself if I don't get the care I need from these people. This really needs improvement in all areas.

Dear Turner 6875

I am the deputy sister for fracture clinic and am sorry that you have had this experience which falls below the standards that we would expect for all of our patients.

If you would like to contact me I would be happy to discuss and explore what happened with you in more detail with a suitable resolution.

Best wishes

Wendy Smith
