"An incredibly hard working and dedicated team."

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B)

(as a parent/guardian),

In early December, my teenage son was referred by his GP to A&E at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. The GP suspected a Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax and after assessment in A&E he was admitted to ward 3B.

Ward 3B is a busy ward, with lots of unwell, babies, toddlers and children and as this was the first time ever needing a hospital admission we were both a little nervous. We were quickly reassured by the incredible staff that work on Ward 3B.

Family-centred care is at the heart of what they do. Simple things like Dr Paddy coming to talk to me (Mum) at midnight to fill me in on what was happening to the Nurse who then made a couple of slices of toast for my son knowing that he was hungry.  We ended up staying on Ward 3B for three days as my son required a Needle Aspiration.

The level of care we received from every one of the team of staff on Ward 3B was exemplary.  The domestic staff worked hard to ensure everything was kept clean, the catering staff ensured we were fed and the nurses and doctors who attended to my son were fantastic. We were kept up to date and always given the opportunity to ask questions.

Everyone respected my son as the patient and clearly explained all that was going on.  My son is home, back at school and recovering well. Thank you to everyone on Ward 3B, you are an incredibly hard working and dedicated team.

Dear skyxt93

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

I am sorry to hear your son required an emergency stay with us and I am glad to hear he is recovering well at home.

I am delighted to read that you felt the care your son received while in our care was exemplary and also that you felt the care provided was family centred and that we were able to support you as parents during this very difficult time.

It means so much to our staff to know they are making a positive difference to the children and families in our care and I will ensure this fantastic feedback and your thanks is shared with the teams.

Many thanks

Emma McGinlay
