"Support Services ED cleaner"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

Had the bad luck to spend 8 hours in ED yesterday when the department was incredibly busy. In that time I saw 2 cleaners give a cursory look around with a brush.

I had to return to the department today for further scan and would like to compliment the young man cleaning this morning, I believe by his ID badge his name is Ben. In spite of the large number of people in the waiting area again, he has thoroughly cleaned the entire floor (including under seats where there were bottles and items still sitting from when I arrived yesterday morning) with manners and efficiency.

Thank you for highlighting the hard work the cleaning staff do in challenging circumstances and for your recognition and compliments for Ben and his work. “I was absolutely delighted to receive news this morning of positive feedback from a service user in Altnagelvin ED. It is extremely busy area to work in, with ED staff working tirelessly despite high attendances, especially within the waiting area.

The waiting area, was distinctly busy and I set about cleaning the area to the best of my ability. Whilst I consider this as simply doing my job, it’s really humbling to receive positive feedback from service users who take the time to recognise the hard work of our staff“
