"Waiting lists for audiology"

About: Lauriston Building

(as the patient),

I would like to complain about the waiting lists. I have been on a waiting list since August 2023 and am told that I won’t be taken until after Easter 2024  for my hearing test.

It is unacceptable for people to wait that length of time. My hearing has gone down since my last test.

The waiting list should be based on need.

I hope the waiting lists will come down.

Thank you very much for highlighting your concerns around Adult Audiology Waiting times. In order to review your case specifically can I invite you to contact the Patient Experience Team, logging a formal concern? This will allow us to look into your own pathway and feedback specifics regarding your care and timelines. The email address is: Feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk.

As a service we recognise that the waiting times are longer than we would like, and the service is in the process of taking positive steps to reduce waiting times including recruitment of new staff.

Please accept our apologies that your response has not been forthcoming. As this forum is anonymous, it is difficult for me to identify if your concern has indeed been passed to the Audiology team. I will investigate with our Patient Experience Team as to any delays they may have. Had your response been received, they should have contacted you directly acknowledging receipt and the heads of complaint. I will investigate with them now, but my main advice on this case, being anonymous, is that you resend the original email to

Feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

and ask that they update you on the status. I can progress quickly once I have your details but sadly cannot investigate further without your patient information identified via the Patient Feedback platform.

Waiting times are longer than we expect at this time, but I can certainly review further once your information is processed via the Patient Experience team.
