My uncle was in the Southwest acute hospital for a number of months after a fall. He was treated like nothing short of royalty. Which to both my uncle and my family, it was obvious just how close knit off a team ward 7 staff are .
On every occasion that we went to visit my uncle ,he had stories of all the activities he had been up to that week or a lovely meal.
To the point that we were concerned that would we struggle to get him home , after being so spoilt by the wonderful staff .
My uncle lives on his own and just loved the company.
As a dedicated and well respected member of his church , all his religious needs were met by the dementia companions each week on the ward. My loved one does not have dementia , but there was time made for himself daily.
On his last day on the ward , I left with a pain in my heart but of happiness , the dementia companions organised a Christmas sing song with lots of patients and their families .
You could see patients that usually struggle to take part in activities everyone found their voice that day. With ward staff also joining in.
Both Clare and Brendan (Companions ) my uncle speaks extremely highly of you both.
From Physios, nursing staff , auxiliaries, occupational therapists , doctors , domestics and everyone else who made a shy reserved man feel like he could stand tall and smile again . As a family we could not of asked for anything more.
Thanks for everything you do ward 7.
