"Long wait in A&E!"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Female Medical

(as the patient),

I came to A&E with a referral from my GP after a diagnosis of C-Diff, I was informed I would need an intravenous antibiotic. I arrived on a Wednesday at lunch time and spent the next two days being moved from a corridor (which was extremely cold) to a waiting room and back to the corridor. I finally got a bed on the Friday, a nurse arranged this and I was extremely relieved as it was very comfortable and I was able to get some sleep.

I had a previous experience in this hospital which was not great, so I was anxious and nervous about having to stay in an open ward, I really don’t think that men and women should be mixed together. Since I have been on Female Medical my anxiety levels have eased, I have been given a room of my own and the nurses have been marvellous, everyone goes above and beyond in their care for all patients.

Thank you for taking the time to share of your experience of Female Medical Ward. We are sorry that you had to wait a long time for a bed. We are delighted that you have had a positive time here on the ward and that the staff have made you feel at ease. Due bed pressures unfortunately some of the bays are mixed gender but we do endeavor to not have mixed bays. I will share your feedback to the staff and I hope you are feeling better.

Best wishes

Judith
