Myself and my daughter accompanied my grandson, who was coming into Ward 30/Children’s Theatre Suite, Ninewells for surgery.
The environment was beautiful, bright, calming, non-threatening and child friendly. Every detail about the area has been considered to reduce anxiety for young patients and their carers.
We received a warm welcome from the receptionist and support from Maxine the play specialist. My grandson had excellent pre and post op care from the ward staff and we felt nothing was too much trouble for them and his specific needs were taken into consideration in a kind, sensitive manner.
I think the Staff Nurse looking after my grandson was Lyndsay (sorry if I have got this wrong), she was excellent and navigated challenges with ease and was extremely compassionate, we were so impressed, you were an angel. Lesley was also brilliant at calming my grandson’s anxiety, with experience, skill and ease.
I cannot speak more highly of the anaesthetic team, Dr Rodney, consultant anaesthetist, Ciaran, anaesthetist and Lesa, anaesthetic nurse who were simply amazing. My daughter and I were so worried that my grandson would be non-compliant to the point of not being able to have his surgery. The fact that we were listened to and his anaesthetic care was so specific, we were truly thankful to you all.
Thank you to the surgeons and scrub staff for their skill and quality care.
Thank you to Marianne and recovery team for their care and attention during a tricky post op phase, you were wonderful.
My grandson is recovering well at home (his safe and secure space), surrounded by his teddy collection. He can’t really remember being in hospital at all, which is a good thing and is thanks to you all.
Our experience was extremely positive and tailored to my grandson’s needs in every way. We were impressed by all aspects of the care we received. The word that encapsulates it all is teamwork and that was what we experienced at its very best.
"An experience tailored to my grandson's needs"
