My father was in hospital from mid-November until today.
I called numerous times for updates as my dad wasn’t any the wiser as to what was going on. He had X-rays and scans and was on antibiotics but was only told on day 7 what exactly was wrong (a severe lung infection).
He was also complaining of abdomen pain to myself on the phone from a few days after admission, and I remember him telling the nurse about his pain. I then had to call and ask what they were doing with a plan for the pain and they told me they weren’t aware of any. I am not sure if this was due to the nurse not listening or just dismissing my fathers complaint of pain.
He then waited 4 days for a CT scan which I also never heard of any result. He was on and off oxygen, moved beds and rooms numerous times.
He was very frustrated and was told since Thursday last week that he would be getting out and each day was then told maybe tomorrow. I collected my father today and was given his medications.
When arriving home I read his discharge sheet and checked his meds and there was a full bottle of oral morphine inside (which I didn’t think was right as it stated on his medication sheet that it was “not for home”).
My father has now told me a few times since being in hospital for a long period of time that he wished he wasn’t here and after finding this bottle I found it very worrying as he was anxious as to why he was given this.
I have taken this from him as I have found that this should not have been brought home at all. This could have been very dangerous.
