After scaffolders damaged a hydrangea bush in my garden, I went out to dig up the hard woody pointed stem and root that remained. Unfortunately, I tripped turning to get the garden fork and fell, managing to impale my leg on the spike, which lifted a deep flap of tissue.
At A&E 3 stitches were applied and several strips, and I was advised to see a doctor and the practice nurse, Laura, at Kinghorn Medical Practice.
I have seen Laura twice a week recently, where she has changed dressings and given very friendly, supportive advice.
The skin did not take and she managed to dissolve it with gels, and also arranged an appointment with a tissue viability nurse.
However healing was extremely slow, probably because of oedema and I was referred to a plastic surgeon.
Laura then tried pressure bandaging and when I did see the consultant plastic surgeon he decided to wait as there had been a marked improvement. The wound has now closed over and dressings are no longer necessary. Laura has ordered support socks for me which I hope to receive shortly.
The practice has been under great pressure since the Covid lockdown. Despite this, the staff - and Laura in particular - have delivered outstanding care. She is always cheerful and explains everything so well, and has been a great support for me. Absolutely exemplary, and I am very grateful.
