My daughter arrived to the gynaecology assessment unit after being referred by her GP in Perth. She came to be treated as she is 7 weeks pregnant, hasn’t eaten or kept any fluids down for the past 4 days.
From GAU we were taken to ward 36. When we arrived we found the student nurse on the ward very unprofessional, the phone was ringing and they were shouting shall I answer and say go away we have no beds? All the while myself and my daughter were standing there and my daughter feeling very faint and sick.
We were escorted to the waiting room by the lovely student from GAU and left. We were told they would be cleaning the bed in room 1 and would come back for her in due course. Over an hour later we saw no one, I went to see what was happening to be told the Dr had the notes and would see my daughter soon.
Room 1 was now occupied by another patient. We waited a further 35mins for the foundation dr to see her. My daughter was to have 2000mls of fluids over 2hrs….her cannula and iv were given in the waiting room we were seated in. Where we remained for the duration of our visit. Not one member of staff came to check on her during her treatment and we had to chase up the second bag to be administered. I had to ask for a pillow as my daughter was so uncomfortable and unwell.
Not one member of staff seemed to care for her, we were just dumped in the room and left. No offer of food or hot beverage. We got our first jug of water 3 hours after we arrived! When I asked the nurse putting up the 2nd bag what would happen after the bag had finished, whether or not her vitals would be taken, they replied that she can just go. Not the service we expect from the NHS.
