"Staff smoking on Trust property"

About: Banbridge Health & Care Centre

(as a friend),

On a recent visit to Banbridge H&SC Centre I witnessed a staff member smoking in the car park, in what I assume was their own car. When finished smoking they got out of the car and threw the cigarette butt on the ground - littering.

It is my understanding that this was a breach of the Trust's own No Smoking Policy, as the car park was Trust property.

I tooted my car horn at them (just very lightly), thinking they might then at least pick up their litter and dispose of it properly, but all they did was turn around and glare at me.

Thank you for highlighting this issue. The Trust Smoke free Policy prohibits smoking and vaping on Trust sites for everyone and includes our car parks. Sadly cigarette butts are a major source of littering on our HSC sites.

We would like to remind everyone todo your bit to keep our HSC sites smokefree and clean. Cigarettes butts are made of plastic and do not biodegrade, so when anyone drops one on the ground it is no different to littering a water bottle, a crisp packet or any other plastic.

If you smoke please dispose of your extinguished cigarette butts in an appropriate bin and do not litter our HSC sites. SHSCT Smoke Free steering group
