"Patronising and inaccurate information "

About: James Paget University Hospital

Having been referred by my Optician to the Eye clinic. I found the reception and nursing staff helpful and friendly. Shame I can’t say the same about the totally dismissive , patronising and unhelpful consultant who made me feel I was totally wasting her time ( believe me I wouldn’t have been there by choice)! Now having read the letter which was sent to my GP, I am shocked at just how inaccurate the information around my referral and consultation is!! Making me look like I was neurotic. The letter stated I presented from casualty ( not true) , I was “extremely anxious” ( not true) concerned yes but who wouldn’t be when you can suddenly not see clearly and your Optician does urgent referral !! Apparently I asked for a second option ( again not true ) the consultant gave me a 4wk follow up, which I can and will cancel as I don’t need it. Overall , very disappointed in the dismissive manner in which I was treated and very unhappy that untruths have been written. I have worked for the NHS patient facing for over 30yrs, I pride myself on treating every patient individually and with the same level of respect, care and understanding regardless of severity of their presenting problem. Shame I wasn’t shown the same curtesy by the Consultants I saw. Costs nothing to be pleasant and reassuring. The least I expect is an accurate account of my visit. Very unimpressed , it’s no wonder patients have such little faith in the service. I don’t care how busy we are manners and kindness cost nothing!!
