"Inappropriate treatment"

About: Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

I felt I was misdiagnosed mistreated due to malpractice and my care was mismanaged under a psychiatric outpatients and community mental health team from the years 2002-2019, I feel I experienced bulling behaviour during this time. I have lifelong life limiting condition that can improve with the correct referrals and care plan. These experiences have left me feeling shocked and violated at times.

Recently I've been struggling Dr I have a recurring trapped nerve / herniated disc in my lumber region, when medications are not dosed correctly then brains and bodies do not work correctly, not everything is a mental health condition.

The correct dose has been returned and my disc has popped back in place, I'm starting to be able to urinate and evacuate my bowels again and I'm beginning to be able to think and process information , I'm feeling relief and now a slight tenderness and ache in my lower back and a return of sensation in my leg and buttock , my lower abdominal discomfort has decreased and I'm now recovering from shock .

My body does not recognise certain types of pain and sensation like other people as I have a condition that effects the central nervous system , I don't always recognise when I'm injured or in pain, I do feel sensation and some types of pain but their are some that I do not recognise the medications I use at the correct dose for me do help me recognise injury and pain and that helps me and my body to protect itself , stay safe and remain free of serious injury , I had a slipped disk for nearly 17 years , my body was in shock and I didn't recognise it.

The melatonin is not like other sleeping pills, it's not like sleeping pills at all in fact with some there is a window of opportunity for falling asleep roughly 45 mins to an hour after consuming the medicine, with melatonin if it is suitable for your condition, as it is with myself when taken with my evening meal closest to when the sun goes down, and I usually have my evening meal between the hours of 5-7 pm as long as my other medications are correct and I've eaten correctly and drank enough fluids, then I sleep very well it corrects my circadian rhythm.

I can not ever use sleeping medication, benzodiazepines or any other major or minor tranquillisers as they do not work for my condition , especially benzodiazepines as the cause a type of seizure in me, they may suit the needs of others but not me and as those medications do not help my health condition my medications will be inappropriate for others . Who are the specialists in conditions like mine as I do not have a mental health condition.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am sorry to read that you feel that you have been misdiagnosed and mistreated whilst accessing mental health services. You could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) to discuss your concerns in more detail with them.

In terms of your physical health concerns this is not our area of expertise as we are a mental health, learning disability and autism trust. Our PALS service would however be able to provide you with the contact details for the PALS service of the care provider who is overseeing your trapped nerve / herniated disc care.

You could also speak to your GP who would be able to advise re your ongoing physical health and sleeping issues.

Our PALS service can be contacted on 0161 716 3178 or via email pals.penninecare@nhs.net.

Kind Regards Kirsty - Patient Feedback Team.
