I was in the ward for a total knee replacement recently.
The care from the beginning to end was excellent. From the consultant and anaesthetist to the nurses and health care assistants, I couldn’t ask for better. The happy faces and the fact that nothing was ever too much for them.
Unfortunately, there was a member of staff who was so very curt with me it was upsetting. I actually had the same experience with this same member of staff previously when I was in the ward for another surgery. I thought the first time it happened they were having an off day, as we all have from time to time. After my most recent encounter with this same staff member I realised it was their attitude to patients and their apparent inability to put their point across in a more friendly and acceptable manner.
The following day this member of staff was exactly the same with another patient. The patient told the member of staff they were not happy with what they were being told and was clearly upset too.
I truly believe this needs looked into as the NHS is so patient focused and want people to come forward with any problems. It is such a shame that one member of staff could potentially tarnish everything the rest of the team do so very well together.
I relayed my feelings to a caring member of staff, who told me very clearly that the member of staff in question is like this with a lot of staff too. Perhaps they have risen a bit above their station and are spoiling things for a second to none service in all other aspects of being a patient from start to finish.
I do hope this is published as I feel it is very important to get a true overall picture of all aspects of care. I am still so very grateful for all the staff in the NHS and what they do for everyone on a daily basis. Thank you.⭐️⭐️⭐️
