"I always feel treated with patience and respect"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as the patient),

Gemma was incredibly personable and helpful. I always find the staff here congenial and professional. Gemma was no exception. She made me feel very comfortable and was efficient at sorting out my lack of second Gardasil shot (which was due to my error) during my routine STI check.

Mikey who took my bloods was also amazing. Both members of staff were very good with needles!

I also wanted to say something about my experience with HPV treatment in 2021 and 2022. Initially it was very difficult as we were coming out of the pandemic so I did not get seen for quite some time. Some podophyllin  was posted to me and it led to a lot of pain but no success.

Several months later I was eventually triaged for a phone consultation and spoke to Dr Shaw and then subsequently saw him in the clinic. He was very kind and helpful, and sympathetic (I was very upset and distressed by this stage). He gave me Aldara and then made sure that I was telephoned to update him on progress.

I saw Dr Shaw a couple of times and spoke on the phone a few times and he was always so kind. He then referred me for cryotherapy. I had many treatments )I think maybe 9 or 10. There was still no sign of them going and I gather Dr Shaw was consulted again by the person I had the appointment with, and it was decided to try me on Gardasil. This did seem to shift things, hurray!

18 months later I am pleased to say that there have been no further issues and the chronic pain I was subsequently left with was treated with hypnotherapy and time.

The clinic staff are amazing. I always feel treated with patience and respect. Please keep doing what you are doing.

On a negative note, and I gather you are aware of this; trying to book an appointment on the telephone is actually impossible. I ended up going in person to book as I live fairly close by.

But overall, many thanks. And a special thanks to Dr Shaw.

Dear AGWExeter,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback about your recent experience at our service. I have passed on your comments to Dr. Shaw, Mikey and Gemma, they will be delighted.

I am delighted to hear that you were looked after so well, and that your symptoms are all but gone.

Thank you for raising the issue about our phone lines, due to how busy we are, we can appreciate how frustrating this can be. I am pleased to be able to tell you that we now have an online booking system, which might make things easier, should you need to contact us again in the future. If you click the following link, it should take you through to the booking system: https://www.devonsexualhealth.nhs.uk/our-clinics/myphr/

Best wishes,

Abbey

Senior Nurse
