"Treatment for bladder cancer"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

I received BCG treatment for Bladder Cancer at Altnagelvin Hospital. It is a long walk from the car park to the department where I receive treatment, as I have to go through the main hospital. I feel like bladder cancer patients are treated as second-class citizens; it is a disappointing and dismal experience. Other cancer patients receive care at the North West Cancer centre and seem to get a code for the car park there, but bladder cancer patients don't seem to get the same access.

Because I have to go through the main hospital, and it is fairly local to me, I often bump into people that I know who ask me why I am there, and this is something I don't really want on the day of treatment. However, if my treatment was at the North West Cancer Centre, this would be less likely.

The Oncology nurse is very good and very kind. The location of the treatment is nothing to do with them.
