"So upset about the whole experience"

About: Community Sexual Health & Reproductive Services / Sexual health & Reproductive services - Drumhar Health Centre General practices in Tayside Ninewells Hospital / Sexual and Reproductive Health

(as a service user),

Traumatised and distressed.

My first contact was with the most empathic and competent doctor I have met. Fitted my Loop device on numerous occasions without problem and solved all my issues.

When this doctor retired and they referred me to GP. The GP cancelled numerous times so left without device for a number of weeks. GP said I had to do it myself, I couldn’t manage it and it was not fitted correctly, so next days my husband had to remove it, this was very distressing.

Then my GP left, and I was left to make various phone calls for help. Months later my first doctor came to my rescue and referred me back to Drumhar. I saw a doctor, but this doctor did not fit my device - it was a staff member who was in training, and it was extremely painful. When I stood they said ok that's you. I said it’s not fitting correctly it’s sore. Eventually they removed it and told me to reuse it and it would be refit in their clinic at Ninewells. I was given an appointment and I left.

I was so upset about the whole experience, I contacted the clinic and cancelled my appointment as I was afraid of what it would be like. I’m now it a lot of pain because of the time I have been left without the device.

Please can someone help me to ensure that I see a competent doctor at Ninewells.

Dear puppiszf96

Thank you for sharing details of your situation and the steps you had to take to try and resolve the issue. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced these difficulties at your GP practice. Feedback enables an organisation to reflect, identify areas for improvement and revise any processes as required. As each GP Practice is an independent business, we would recommend that you feedback your experience directly to the practice to enable them to do this. Your GP practice will have a Complaints and Feedback Policy which will help explain this process.

I hope you will soon be seen to have the device fitted without pain or worry. We appreciate you sharing your story.

Best wishes

Victoria

Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like you have had a frustrating and distressing journey trying to find someone to fit your loop device which is very unfortunate. I am sorry that you lost faith in our service and cancelled your follow up appointment.

The insertion of a loop device is usually done by the person themselves but given your expressed difficulties it may be that this is not the right treatment for you. We have identified a Gynaecology clinic in Perth (PRI), a pessary clinic run by a specialist nurse who would be more suitable to change the device for you regularly.

Otherwise, or in addition, we would be happy to speak with you to identify if there is a different treatment option for you. Please give us a call on 01382 425542 to arrange a telephone appointment to discuss the next step to help you with your symptoms.
