"DEXA scan"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Radiology (X-ray)

(as the patient),

Last week I had my first DEXA scan.  I'm no stranger to the radiology department but I was a little apprehensive. I needn't have worried.  I was greeted (on time) by the radiologist, Ben, who was so thorough, patient and kind I was immediately at ease.

Not at all undignified, as I had imagined, (even wearing hospital gowns) the procedure was over well before I had time to fall asleep which by now, being so relaxed, I almost did.

So thank you Ben, for your professional caring attitude...a credit to the department and to the hospital.

I am a Diagnostic Radiographer with many years experience of working, and imaging patients, in all areas of the Radiology department. I am also responsible for the governance in Radiology and so make sure that we are compliant with the many ionising radiation regulations that dictate what we can and can't do in radiology, keep the patients and staff safe and ensure we are practicing safely. I also deal with our policies and procedures and oversee compliments, complaints and quality.

Dear Hazelnutz,

Thank you for taking the time to leave positive feedback following your DXA scan. I completely understand the unknown can be a bit worrying, especially not knowing quite what to expect, and despite your visits to other parts of radiology.

I'm so pleased that your experience was positive, and was in the end relaxing enough to be able to almost fall asleep! Ben is still learning all there is to know about DXA scanning and is doing a fantastic job; he will be so pleased to receive your kind feedback that I will pass onto both him and his manager this afternoon.

Kind regards

Gill
