"Birth experience"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I first rang triage at around 6pm I was having contractions quite close together and lasting over minute each , they said on the phone they are quite busy and if I can talk through the pain . I ended up saying I will see how I feel and soon make my way .

Later took shower and tried to rest could not sleep or lie down pain was getting stronger and unbearable so I made my way to the hospital at around 10pm. Was seen at 1am found out was 3cm dilated and contracting.

I wanted the birth centre but got sent to Mary ward, where I felt the midwife was absolutely horrible. I got given pain killer at 1am and when I was asking for gas and air they went off with no response so I kept pressing bell and they were so rude.  After 2 or 3 time calling I was told they couldn't give pain relief. Went few hours could not bare the pain. Finally this time when I pressed the bell there was a different midwife who gave the gas and air. The worst part was no one was checking up on you, I was left in room with other lady's in pain . 😔

Around 6am ish I was ready to push the baby . Thank god the midwife came to check on me and they took me to delivery room. I was asked to get up on to a wheel chair but when they saw I was ready they wheeled the bed to delivery room.

Delivery room was all fine quick .

But can I say Mary ward needs improving, toilet alarm near room 9 was not working, staff taking food order was so rude, food was served cold even breakfast. Plain food hardly no taste .

Beds uncomfortable, worst part was at night you could hear the sound of the wind from outside it sounded like a horror film even in Mary ward down stairs .

Food needs improvement, rooms and facilities, bathrooms , even staff need better attitude and improve their service .

Then midwife not coming home I feel sorry for all the mums who have c section or stitches down there. Miss the time midwifes came and did home visits, 2 of the appointment were far away from me.

Midwife appointments were all helpful and information given all was good

They need more room and beds like I understand they were busy but come on . You need to have enough rooms for patients .

I'm just glad I didn't start pushing before I was in the labour room delivery .
