We recently visited A&E at West Cornwall (Penzance) as my teenage daughter had serve stomach pains and vomiting.
All of the staff were absolutely amazing, making my daughter feel as comfortable as possible. I would really like to thank the Doctor we saw, Dr Marsh. He was pretty confident it was appendicitis from her symptoms and blood results and wanted to admit her to Treliske. When he called them they were reluctant to take her.
The doctor at Treliske didn’t feel it was appendicitis as the pain come on too quickly and said for my daughter to be admitted for a scan. Dr Marsh wasn’t happy with this as felt appendicitis cannot be ruled out and didn’t want to risk sending my daughter home where it could burst and life could then be at risk.
Also as my daughter was in a lot of pain, the doctor wanted her admitted for pain management. Penzance A&E isn’t 24 hrs, if things got worse we would have had to drive 45/60 min to Truro. Dr Marsh pushed and pushed where they finally agreed. However, on arrival at Treliske around 2 am the doctor still insisted to us he still felt it’s unlikely appendicitis and do we want to come back in the morning? We declined and I said I’m going with Dr Marsh's recommendations and staying.
Anyway after scans and MRI it was confirmed it was in fact appendicitis and my daughter was taken down for surgery late that evening. She’s been in a lot of pain since then and the staff here (her new doctor and nurses ) have all been absolutely amazing.
We were told her appendix was very enlarged and could have burst at any time. If it wasn’t for Dr Marsh insisting we were admitted we could have had a different outcome.
"An amazing doctor"
