This year I've felt extremely let down and frequently dismissed by my GP practice. I've had multiple infections, I've called approximately 10 times, been seen twice and prescribed 7 courses of antibiotics, mostly over the phone.
I've recently called the practice as I have yet another infection. From the onset I made it clear that I am reluctant to be prescribed more antibiotics and questioned whether the overuse of them had contributed to why I've been so poorly, which was not addressed. I was advised that the infection I'm suffering from is most likely viral given the time of year (no appointment offered to be examined).
I requested to be referred to ENT given the fact I've had previous sinus surgery and in the last 6 months suffered from two sinus infections, labyrinthitis, ear infection, perforated ear drum and now a throat infection (lost voice) and blocked sinuses. I was advised I couldn't be referred until I had been prescribed a steroid nasal spray for 3 months as was recommended after my surgery.
I have previously requested a nasal spray from the practice and been told the health board does not allow them to be prescribed and to go to my local pharmacy. I am extremely disheartened with my treatment and feel if the nasal spray had been prescribed months earlier then I wouldn't have had to endure the subsequent infections that have followed.
This has impacted on my work, resulting in potentially disciplinary action due to the number of absences I've had. The amount of conflicting information I've been given by the practice is alarming and needs addressed.
