"Disappointed not to deliver at Arbroath"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / Community Midwifery Unit Maternity care / Antenatal and Postnatal (Ward 38) Ninewells Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I had very positive experiences throughout my pregnancy at Arbroath Midwifery Unit. My named midwife, Christine, was lovely and supported my choices in my maternity care but the other midwives and student midwives were also very caring and knowledgeable.

Unfortunately, due to short staffing which caused the unit to be closed on the night of my baby's delivery in August, I was not able to deliver my baby there as planned and I was directed to Ninewells instead which, although also a very positive experience with staff, was unfortunate as the unit in Arbroath really should be supported more so that they can be a 24/7 service at all times.

Dear phoenixpj44

I wish to congratulate you and your family on the birth of your beautiful baby, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the excitement a newborn baby brings to the family unit

I am delighted to hear you had such a fantastic Experience with your named midwife Christine and the student midwife. I will be honoured to share this feedback directly with Christine. As a service it is great to hear our focus to ensure women receive individualised holistic care has been achieved and that for you personally, it provided such a postive impact to your pregnancy wellbeing.

I am sorry we were not able to support your birth place choice on the day you went into labour, we always strive to ensure our birth units remain open 24/7, however there are times due to unforeseen circumstances that this is not possible. We continually review when any of our midwifery services are not available, to establish how we continue to progress provision as a service.

However, I am so pleased your birth experience within Ninewells was positive and I will be delighted to share this with the team.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience, it is so very valuable to us as a team to understand what women and families wish from their birth experience, and how we continue to evolve as a service to support this.

I wish you and your family all the very best

Warm wishes

Steph Gardiner
