I attended Out of Hours recently at Daisy Hill Hospital and was advised by the doctor to go to A&E. I tried to argue against this as I had seen people queuing out the door and I didn’t think I was fit to sit for hours. I don’t know how it worked out in my favour, but I was triaged within 20 minutes and then seen shortly after by a doctor. I stayed in my own bay overnight and was transferred the next day to Female Surgical. I am immune suppressant and firmly believe if I had to go home I would not be alive today.
My experience on this ward has been excellent, the care I have received has been amazing, considering the nurses seem so overworked on this ward, they have too many patients and not enough staff. I am lucky as I am not old and I can take care of myself, but these nurses are working past their finish time just to give the care that is needed.
My observation is nurses need to get better pay to encourage the younger generation to stay in this country and work in our hospitals. Well done to all the staff on Female Surgical.
