"Staff shortages and failed care"

About: District Nursing / Strabane Older People’s Services / Continence services

(as a relative),

My dad is an 87 year old cathether user.  The care he receieves from the continence service is usually very satisfactory.  However on this instance dads care was compromised due to staff shortages.... resulting in him being ill and having a lot of complications.  He spent 2 days in A&E to get this matter sorted and is now very anxious that this may occur again.

This problem stemmed from the district nurses who were allocated this procedure were unable to carry out the task.
We have never had reason to be unhappy previously as he was always seen by the service on time but this occasion unfortunatley led to a dreadful experience.

Hello staryp58

My name is Melanie Cox and I am the Community Nursing Services Manager for Fermanagh.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

I was happy to read that you felt the care your father receives normally is very satisfactory, however disappointed that on this particular occasion you felt your fathers care was compromised. This is not what we would like our service users to feel.

As you know Care opinion is an anonymous platform and I would like to know more about your specific experience in relation to your fathers care, therefore I would like to invite you to contact me via email at melanie.cox@westerntrust.hscni.net with your contact number and I can then call you to discuss your experience and investigate further.

Kind regards

Melanie
