"Rehabilition at home"

About: Intermediate and Transitional Care / Community Rehabilitation Team

(as a carer),

My wife was released from hospital after many hours waiting to go home and because there was no hoist she had to wait until the next day. She came home to a hoist and no chair.

After a wait the chair arrived which was inadequate for her needs. The o.t.s tried numerous times to sit her out but the chair and the cushion were totally inadequate as she kept slipping off the chair the o.t.s tried to adjust the chair to no avail, they tried standing and she was really good she stood and marched on the spot. But due to the effort in the chair and having to return to bed she got weaker and the o.t.s tried their best but she was unable to stand again.

Dear inspirezd75,

I am one of the operational managers for the Community Rehabilitation Service.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your wife’s discharged was delayed awaiting equipment for home – I can appreciate that this would have been frustrating for you both.

As you have mentioned, the OTs tried their best to get your wife sitting out in her chair, however, it would appear that they were limited in what could be achieved due to equipment available at the time.

I would like to invite you to contact either myself or Emma Corrigan, Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist, to discuss this further to allow us to look at your wife’s case specifically and ensure good practice was followed.

You can contact us on: 028 95 042 353 or lucy.jordan@belfasttrust.hscni.net or emma.corrigan@belfasttrust.hscni.net

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Lucy Jordan (Operational Manager, CRS) & Emma Corrigan (Clinical Lead OT, CRS)
