I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis earlier this year. As part of that, I was reviewed by Mr Kirk for thymectomy. I just wanted to shout out him and the NHS Golden Jubilee nurses in particular - from pre-op assessment, 4 West, theatres/recovery, HDU2, pain nurses, cardiothoracic ANPs and especially 3 West for putting up with me.
I am a nurse myself, but didn't impact my care either way. All the staff were professional, kind and understanding. My thymectomy was performed by Mr Kirk, which unfortunately was converted from keyhole to full sternotomy on the table meaning a bigger op, longer stay, drains, more pain(!) etc.
All the staff, but particularly the nurses and HCSWs (and student nurses), were simply amazing though, supporting me and making me proud to be a nurse. It's not easy being on the other side, but you all made it that wee bit better with your care. Thanks to everyone.
