I recently attended Hairmyres Hospital for a Hysteroscopy. Due to the nature of the procedure I was very anxious.
I arrived at the rapid access unit and was met by lovely members of staff, really warm and smiling and this began to put me at ease.
When called for the procedure I was welcomed by Margaret who explained to me what was going to happen and helped me get ready for it. She was warm and friendly and this instantly put me at ease.
As I went in for the procedure, along with the Doctor carrying it out there was a student, Gwen, and another nurse Carina.
Again I was a little overwhelmed with so many people but quickly I understood their roles. Carina stood right beside me, talking to me in general, and this distracted me, which was great. Margaret stood at the other side and talked me through exactly what the doctor was doing.
Both nurses reassured me each step of the way as well as keeping my mind occupied. In the end I had a couple of biopsies. This wasn't pleasant but it was certainly manageable. During this Carina even held my hand! I was so took a back by how supportive and caring the nurses were.
If it wasn't for the procedure I would have felt like I was having a night out and catching up with old friends!
Thanks so much to Margaret and Carina I hope you're recognised for the amazing work you do! Also to the Dr who carried out the procedure and Gwen the lovely student!
This was a very positive experience and I would encourage everyone to go with an open mind as you will most definitely get the right care when you are there!
"This was a very positive experience"
