"The care given to my mum"

About: Community Alarm and Equipment Services / Community Alarm & Telecare Service Crieff Community Hospital / Acute Care Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance South Locality Occupational Therapy / Community Rehabilitation (South) Trauma & orthopaedics / Trauma Admissions Unit (Ward 18)

(as a relative),

My mum is in her 80s, she collapsed and broke both her ankles. She was in hospital for 6 weeks before being discharged to stay with me for 4 more weeks before getting home.

The care given to my mum has been wonderful. From the paramedics that came to attend to her, the nurses in both Ninewells Ward 18 and Crieff Community Hospital, and the physios and OT team who have helped her return home.

Sersha and the OT team have helped give my mum the tools and the confidence to get back home. This is a really big and important step in her recovery but obviously one that she was nervous about. But with the support from Sersha and the team she has been able to get home and is managing to cope with the adaptations that were arranged for her very quickly.

Sersha had recommened to us when visiting mum's home to assess it that she might benefit from having a Community Alarm. We agreed this would be a good idea and from the point we had that conversation the alarm was installed at mum's home within the week. This was the catalyst that really gave mum the confidence, and us, to allow her to go home and feel safe in the knowledge that a response team are there whenever she needs them.

Mum and I pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in mum's care and recovery.

Dear Giraffefb34,

Thank you for publishing such an uplifting and positive update on your mum's rehabilitation.

I remember your mum's stay on the ward, and I remember her being so positive and so determined. She was also very good at encouraging her fellow patients when it came to them receiving their OT and Physio.

It's really great to hear that your mum is doing so well. The team and I wish her well for her continuing recovery.
