"Nurse practitioner had a lovely, friendly manner"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a parent/guardian),

My 3 year old son had been poorly with a sore tummy and diarrhoea for a few days, along with being sick once almost daily, mostly within an hour of going to bed.

I phoned my GP surgery, Maryhill Health Centre, and was told to take him up for appointment that morning. My son was seen by a nurse practitioner called Jordan, who was very thorough in checking him over, doing the usual observations as well as examining his tummy and having a listen, assuring me that everything was normal in regards to his bowels and no apparent pain from when she was feeling his tummy.

As well as his observations being fine, my son was in good spirits during his appointment, so the nurse could have well just said that everything seemed fine, but she requested a urine sample just to rule out anything else.

I am so grateful to Jordan for being so thorough, as it turned out that my son had an E-coli infection, and she had phoned me with this result and explained everything clearly to me. She offered to call me back in a few days to see how my son was responding to the antibiotics, which she did and even reassured me that he was receiving the necessary dose, as I had been told by another parent that my son would probably require a longer dose.

Jordan had a lovely, friendly manner and was very good with my son. Thanks to her care, my son was soon much better after starting the antibiotics. I really could not thank her enough

Thank you for getting in touch EA2830. I’m sure it’ll mean a lot to Jordan to know you and your son really appreciated her lovely manner and thoroughness.

It must have been really worrying when your son was ill – with him being so young, and even worse to discover it was eColi, so it’s good to hear the Practice team arranged for your son to be seen the day after your phone call and that Jordon acted quickly. I can understand how re-assuring it felt to have that follow up call too.

Most of the GP Practices in Grampian are independent contractors with a separate feedback and complaints system. They are not currently registered to respond to feedback through the Care Opinion site and don’t routinely access the feedback shared, but I’d be happy to forward your feedback to Jordan and the Maryhill team directly and I’ll post in the thread below if they get back to me with a response.

I hope your son has now made a full recovery.

Take care,

Kirsten

Hello EA2830,

Please see the below response received from Jordan at the Maryhill team today - I think your feedback brightened up her week.

'Dear EA2830,

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback – it’s really nice to read.

We all work very hard as a team at Maryhill to ensure positive patient outcomes - and I'm glad this has been achieved for you and your son on this occasion and it is certainly nice to receive positive feedback on my practice.

it is also very important that patients are able to ask us questions about the advice and treatments we suggest - but I'm glad you felt reassured and confident with the advice and treatment given. I'm also very glad to hear your little boy is feeling much better!

Thanks again for getting in touch.

Jordan Rae

Practice Nurse'
