"The care has been spot on! :)"

About: Trauma & Orthopaedics / Major Trauma Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was admitted to the Major Trauma Ward after a stay in ICU.

I found myself here after falling from approximately 60 ft from a building. I had extensive injuries to the majority of my body apart from my right arm and hand. I was considered lucky to be alive.

My experience was nothing but good and positive during my time in the major trauma ward, however I did struggle with low mood when I first came to the ward as I had spinal injuries that have now been fixed. I had to stay flat on my back on a special bed that restricted my movement. I was made fully aware of the severity of my injuries and understood why I wasn't allowed to sit up or move myself, however it still effected me mentally.

I did face some mental battles when preparing for multiple surgeries but I was supported by the team to work through these mental barriers. The major trauma team has a number of professionals that support your every need and help you achieve goals that at times don't seem possible. I can't thank all of the team enough for being motivational, happy, understanding and a laugh during my time here.

I am now rehabilitating well and using a wheelchair to get around. I am looking forward to transferring closer to home to see my family. I don't have any negative comments or suggestions for improvements as the care has been spot on! :)
