About: Royal Victoria Hospital (Belfast)

(as a parent/guardian),

Attempted to visit my father this afternoon. Both routes were choked with incoming traffic to site and backed up onto main roads approaching site. After 90 minutes, I gave up attempting access. 

When I arrived home (over 50 miles away), I tried to ring (5 attempts) the relatives number to get an update but there was no answer.

How are relatives supposed to access, and support, in-patients at this hospital? BHSCT have been aware of this issue for nearly 10 years but taken NO action as far as I can see

When you can then get no telephone communication, this exacerbates the situation; it is time BHSCT take over laundry etc of patients?

Dear Ballagh101,

I am the lead nurse for the elderly care ward and would like to take the opportunity to apologise for the difficulty you experienced in communication with the ward. the relatives phone was an initiated to resolve communication issues during Covid 19 and was a success, we apologise that it was not working on the day you tried to reach us. I have shared your story with the team and we realise the importance of communication with our patients' relatives and next of kin. if you would like to discuss further I am happy for you to contact me.
